PHLEBOTOMY
Objective:
Phlebotomy also is called vein puncture is a procedure I which a needle ia inserted in a vein to take blood sample, usually laboratory testing .The procedure done by the person called Phlebotomist Requirement:
• Collection tubes
• Needle /syringes
• Gloves
• Alcohol swabs
• Torniquet
• Bandage
• Safety box
• Sanitizer
• Disponsable contanier
Procedures
1. Confirm patient identify
2. Inform the pateint about the process and address any concerns they may have
3. Identify the suitable vein (median cubital vein is preffered)
4. Apply torniquet to make the vein more visible
5. Sterilize puncture site with alcohol swab
6. Attach the needle to blood collection tube or syringes
7. Insert the needle into vien proper blood flow into the syringes or blood collection tube
8. Fill the required blood colletion tube in correct order
9. With the needle carefully appliying pressure to puncture site with gauze
10.Safely dispose off the needle in sharp container ,apply bandage
11.Label the collection tube with pateint information
12.Blood must be drawn by phlebotomist in specific order in order to avoid cross contamination of the sample by additives found in different tube
